What to expect

• Regular vital sign checks
• Pain management through medications and comfort measures
• Wound monitoring and dressing changes
• Help with movement and exercises
• Management of any tubes or drains
• Gradual return to normal activities

Your recovery phases

• First 24 hours: Close monitoring in bed, pain management, rest
• Days 2-7: Gradual movement, starting gentle exercises, wound checks
• Week 2 onwards: Increasing activity as tolerated, final wound healing

Important during recovery

• Pain control is important for healing - let us know about pain
• Movement prevents blood clots and breathing problems
• Follow all restrictions on activity, lifting, and bathing
• Watch your wound for signs of infection
• Attend all follow-up appointments

Warning signs - tell us immediately

• Fever, chills
• Severe pain not relieved by medicine
• Redness, swelling, or pus from wound
• Unusual bleeding or drainage
• Difficulty breathing
