Enema Administration

What is it?

Introduction of fluid into your colon through the rectum to promote bowel movement or deliver medication.

Why might you need an enema?

Enemas help with constipation, prepare for medical procedures, or deliver certain medications.

What to expect

• You lie on your side
• A lubricated tube is gently inserted into the rectum (3-4 inches)
• Warm solution flows in slowly
• You may feel pressure or mild discomfort - this is normal
• Cramping feeling is common
• You're encouraged to hold the solution for 5-15 minutes
• Then you evacuate on the toilet

Comfort tips

• Stay relaxed - tension makes it harder
• Breathe slowly
• Tell us if pain is severe
• Take time on the toilet afterward

After the procedure

• You'll feel relieved
• Report any unusual symptoms to us
• Drink water to help restore hydration
