Feeding Assistance (Hand/Tube/PEG)

What is it?

Help with eating when you have difficulty eating independently due to weakness, injury, or neurological conditions.

When do you need this?

• After stroke or neurological events
• With weak arms or hands
• With swallowing difficulties
• During recovery from illness

What to expect

• You're positioned comfortably (usually upright)
• Food is the right temperature and consistency
• We feed you slowly with appropriate-sized portions
• You control the pace - we go at your speed
• Adequate time for chewing and swallowing
• Oral care after eating

Tips for successful feeding

• Tell us your food preferences
• Alert us to foods that are difficult to swallow
• Pace yourself - don't rush
• Drink water with meals

Safety first

• We watch for signs of choking or coughing
• Proper positioning prevents aspiration
